Sorry, they can't be all cute and original like in the first movie. It's definitely worth watching but it's not a documentary It's supposed to be silly and entertaining.
Pitch Perfect 2 doesn't capture that magic that the first film did, but they do an okay job trying to recreate it.
It's about what you would expect from a sequel. There are some good jokes there are also some tired and even stereotypically racist jokes , it's entertaining, and the singing sequences are pretty cool.
Anna Kendrick is still a delight to watch and Rebel Wilson is pretty hilarious. However, it feels like the plot was an afterthought, almost like the songs and jokes were written first and then the writers tried to stuff in a formulaic "sequel" plot around them.
The result is a movie that doesn't transition very well from scene to scene and that often lacks relatable character motivations. It's a bit funny that the main theme of the movie is originality, yet it is pretty much a carbon copy of every competition sequel ever made.
Think Mighty Ducks 2, where the ragtag team of lovable and talented misfits competes on the world stage and battles the mechanically pristine and polished Aryan villains.
