Von einer Demonstration in Paris kehrten sie nicht mehr zurück, sie wurden eventuell im Laufe des Pariser Massakers vom Oktober ermordet.
Zunächst wollten die Eltern von Georges den algerischen Jungen adoptieren, Georges aber war als Sechsjähriger eifersüchtig und erzählte Lügen über Majid, der daraufhin weggebracht und ins Waisenhaus gesteckt wurde.
Georges weist die Verantwortung für das Geschehene von sich, da er ja noch ein Kind gewesen sei. Wenig später wird Georges zu seinem Chef bestellt, der ebenfalls ein Video der Unterhaltung erhalten hat.
Auch Pierrot hat eine Karte bekommen. Dann spitzt sich die Situation zu, als Pierrot nicht wie gewöhnlich nach dem Training nach Hause kommt.
Nachts alarmieren die Laurents die Polizei, Majid und sein jugendlicher Sohn werden festgenommen, bestreiten aber vehement, etwas getan zu haben.
Pierrot taucht am nächsten Tag wieder auf, er war nur bei einem Freund. Majid bittet Georges ein zweites Mal zu sich nach Hause. Zunächst bestreitet er erneut freundlich, etwas mit den Videos zu tun zu haben.
Georges bleibt schockiert und ratlos zurück. Er geht ins Kino, spätabends kommt er nach Hause und erzählt Anne, was passiert ist, heute und damals.
Georges hatte Majid angestiftet, auf dem elterlichen Bauernhof einem Hahn den Kopf abzuschlagen, und danach gegenüber seinen Eltern behauptet, Majid habe ihn damit erschrecken wollen.
An seinem Arbeitsplatz wird Georges von Majids Sohn aufgesucht, der erregt, aber höflich auf einem Gespräch insistiert.
Georges greift auch ihn verbal an und weist die Verantwortung für Majids Selbstmord von sich. Der Sohn bestreitet seinerseits ebenfalls glaubhaft, etwas mit den Videos zu tun zu haben.
Am Ende des Gesprächs hat er, was er eigentlich wollte: einen Eindruck von Georges, dem Mann, den er für die Misere seines Vaters verantwortlich macht.
Georges geht früher nach Hause, nimmt Tabletten, zieht die Vorhänge zu und legt sich ins Bett. Dann, in einer letzten Szene, sieht man, wie Majids Sohn und Pierrot im Schülergetümmel vor dessen Schule miteinander sprechen.
Haneke nimmt in seinem Film auch Bezug auf die Geschehnisse vom Oktober Massaker von Paris , die den österreichischen Filmemacher u.
Pariser Polizisten erschossen, erschlugen und ertränkten in besagter Nacht ca. Claude Bourdet, Chefredakteur des France-Observateur , erfuhr vom Massaker durch schockierte Beteiligte und machte die Nachricht publik.
Er wurde daraufhin vom Polizeipräsidenten wegen Beamtenbeleidigung gerichtlich belangt und der Vorfall versandete in den Mühlen der Justiz.
Das Massaker gilt in Frankreich als Tabuthema und wurde u. Weitere Gründe für Haneke, den Film zu realisieren, waren zum einen sein Interesse daran, wie ein prinzipiell moralisch schuldfähiger Erwachsener damit umgeht, als schuldunfähiges Kind eine Tragödie verursacht zu haben.
Zum anderen hatte Haneke ein Interesse daran, mit dem Schauspieler Daniel Auteuil zusammenzuarbeiten. Haneke sagt von Auteuil, er habe, ähnlich wie früher Jean-Louis Trintignant , etwas Geheimnisvolles an sich, das einem immer das Gefühl gebe, er habe etwas zu verbergen.

Mar 11, VHS tapes containing recordings of the Laurent household under mysterious surveillance begin arriving at their front door, and these tapes lead to strained relationships as the couple attempts to solve the mystery of who is sending the tapes.
I had no prior knowledge of this movie going into it. Typically, I don't watch a lot of foreign language films.
However, I've heard from multiple outlets that Cache is considered one of the best movies of the century, so I had to see what the buzz is about.
After viewing, I can understand the hype. Let me start by saying that Cache is not a movie for casual film fans. At two hours in length, it is a very slow movie and focuses more on the actors than the actions.
Also, as I said before, this is French film. If that's a turn-off, don't watch it. I believe Haneke directed a real piece of art here.
The tension is palpable throughout the run time thanks to long, static shots and a complete absence of music.
Seriously, not a single note is played in the background of Cache. It amps up the intensity in a way that makes it almost uncomfortable to watch.
Helping this cause are the two lead actors. Auteuil and Binoche have fantastic chemistry, and the strain in their relationship increases throughout the movie.
Speaking of ambiguity, the end of this movie is going to piss people off. Haneke has gone on record to say that he enjoys listening to people's theories on the movie because there really is no clear answer to the mystery.
While infuriating, it effectively makes me want to rewind and watch the movie all over again! Seriously folks, if you have patience when watching a movie, Cache is worth your time.
It only becomes more intriguing as the plot thickens, and you'll be unable to do anything except stare at the screen searching for subtle clues as to who is behind the mystery.

For those willing to take on some heavy ambiguity, Haneke crafts a self-reflexive story about the relationship between film and memory, both good and bad.

No character development lead into this, the film dived right into this. Smart decision in my mind, because this film never wasted a second.
These tapes and occasional letters turned there lives upside down. There were no threats, no foul play, just the pure idea of being stalked crashed there lives to the ground.
I was incredibly tense through out, I was always on the edge waiting for what's to come next. The editing by Muse and Hudeck was unbelievable, the pacing was spot on.
The only thing I wish is that there would be at least some more of a conclusion. I'm not saying a give away, but a hint.
The film can be interpreted many ways with the open end, I'm still pondering a few possibilities. They visit the police with hope of aid to find the stalker, but as there is no direct threat, they refuse to help.
As the tapes become more personal, Georges takes it upon himself to figure out who is putting through his family through such horror. A true Michael Haneke Classic.
Written by Jodie Norton. Greetings again from the darkness. French films have a tradition of being filmed intimately, almost in a voyeuristic manner.
The idea is pretty creepy as Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche have videos dropped on their doorstep showing the almost total nonaction occurring right outside their front door.
This puts quite a strain on their already passionless relationship. The joy of a suspense story is assembling the clues and deciding what is and what is not vital to solving the mystery.
Haneke does an admirable job of tossing clues and false trails on the viewer. The general consensus seems to be that if you somehow miss the last shot of the film, you can't solve it.
In fact, that final shot merely reinforces what we have already been shown. The blending of voyeurism, terrorism and revenge causes much stress for the two leads.
Auteuil is solid in his role, but the lovely Ms. Binoche really shines in her much more emphatic turn as the wife and mother who begins to unravel as the men in her life seem to turn on her.
Watching for details such as the TV newscasts, facial expressions and the timing of the appearance and disappearance of key characters will easily allow the viewer to solve the mystery, but it does not take away from the tension the situation creates.
This is a pretty solid thriller, but not in the class of Francois Ozon's "Swimming Pool" from a couple of years ago. Of course the topicality of technology makes "Cache" a bit more relevant at the moment.

Haneke also left it ambiguous whether the young Georges's claim that Majid coughed blood was a lie, but said he viewed the depiction of Majid menacing Georges with an ax as a mere nightmare.
While the Paris massacre inspired the plot, Haneke said the story was not about a "French problem" as something unusual, remarking, "This film was made in France, but I could have shot it with very few adjustments within an Austrian — or I'm sure an American — context".
Haneke explained, "I wrote it down when I got home and always wanted to use it. I think it sits well here because it makes people ask if it's true or not".
While the filmmakers intended the production to be entirely French, they discovered they could not raise the funds in the one country.
Haneke stated " Daniel Auteuil was the reason I wrote this script" and that he envisioned Auteuil and Binoche in the lead roles and had "almost all the actors in mind" while working on the screenplay.
Child actor Lester Makedonsky was cast as Pierrot, and because of his swimming skills, the filmmakers chose swimming as Pierrot's sport. Principal photography took place at Rue des Iris and Rue Brillat-Savarin, Paris, [34] where Haneke ordered parked vehicles arranged and rearranged to match his vision and prepare for tracking shots.
