Addy and Doc encounter an unusual zombie, then reunite with Warren and the rest of the group, launching a final assault to save Lucy from The Man. It's two years later and still the end of the world.
Waking from a coma inside the zombieless utopia of Zona, Warren senses something is very wrong. Plagued by eerie visions after waking from a coma, Warren quickly grows uneasy inside Zona, and not just because its denizens hail Murphy as a hero.
Zona spirals into chaos as the residents suddenly turn bloodthirsty. In the outside world, the rest of the team gets stuck in a gunfight.
After escaping from Zona, Warren and Murphy reunite with what's left of the gang, including Lucy, who's not all that thrilled to see her dad.
With Warren in the lead, the group heads east into a vehicular graveyard, with a reluctant Murphy in tow.
Meanwhile, Lucy's frustrations boil over. Kidnapped by an unseen force, the team winds up trapped in a labyrinthine underground lair, where survival depends on successfully completing tasks.

Nach einem GAU wäre das halbe Land unbewohnbar. So werden Jungs mit 13 Jahren gezwungen, die Kommune zu verlassen. Als es zu einem Mord kommt, ist das Kommunen-Idyll endgültig zerstört.
Sie wollen sich Murphys Immunität zunutze machen, um ein mit Zombies verseuchtes Drogenlager auszunehmen. Doch Murphy entdeckt, dass er paranormale Fähigkeiten besitzt und setzt diese gegen seine Kidnapper ein.
Dort soll sie Dr. Aber als die Gruppe das Medizinlabor betritt, ist es voller toter Zombies. Schlagartig wird klar, dass es noch viel komplizierter ist, diesen Virus zu bekämpfen, als gedacht.
Murphy Keith Allan hat die nuklearen Sprengköpfe gezündet. Jetzt ist jeder auf sich allein gestellt, und so kommt es, dass die Gruppe sich auf der Suche nach einem geschützten Ort trennt.
Dabei zeigen die Kopfgeldjäger keinerlei Skrupel und das Team muss bald nicht nur gegen Zombies, sondern auch gegen sie kämpfen.
Die Auseinandersetzungen werden immer intensiver und münden in einer Katastrophe, die niemand hatte kommen sehen. Im dabei herrschenden Chaos gelingt Murphy die Flucht.
Sie treffen auf einen Konvoi, mit dem Opfer des Atomangriffs in Sicherheit gebracht werden sollen. Allerdings lernen sie auch "Z-Weed" kennen, eine besonders berauschende Marihuana-Sorte, die auf Zombie-Kompost gedeiht.
Mit seinen telepathischen Fähigkeiten gelingt es Murphy immerhin, ein Muster von "Batch 47" zu empfangen. Erste Tests mit einem enthaupteten Zombie sind vielversprechend.
Roberta Warren Kellita Smith stiehlt den Mennoniten, die sich hilfreich und kooperativ gezeigt haben, deren Antibiotika-Vorräte, um 10K und Addy retten zu können.
Ausgerechnet die junge Mutter wird gebissen. Murphy Keith Allan setzt sich von der Gruppe ab, weil er Angst hat, dass seine Begleiter ihm das Baby wegnehmen und es töten.
Er beauftragt Cassandra Pisay Pao , darauf zu achten, dass die Gruppe zusammenbleibt und nicht nach ihm sucht. Sie findet ihn und erfährt, dass er weg wollte, um den Mann zu suchen, der seine Familie auf dem Gewissen hat.
Beim Überqueren des Mississippi kommt es zu einem Bootsunfall und die Gruppe wird auseinandergerissen. Der fackelt nicht lange und verurteilt die drei Männer zum Tode.
Während Murphy festsitzt und ihn die anderen in einer nahen Kleinstadt suchen, rekapituliert er noch einmal, wie er zu dem wurde, was er jetzt ist.
Doch auch er geht dem Sammler in die Falle. Den beiden Gefangenen bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als darauf zu hoffen, vom Rest der Gruppe gefunden zu werden.
Die Gruppe fasst den Beschluss, sich zu trennen. Währenddessen kann Roberta Citizen Z mitteilen, wie der Raketenwerfer funktioniert, damit er den letzten verbliebenen Zombie auf der Nordpol-Station unschädlich machen kann.
Deren Anführer ist der Ex-Kommunikationsmanager Dr. Gideon Gould Anthony Michael Hall. Es gelingt ihm, zwischen den beiden Gruppen einen vertrauensvollen Dialog anzuregen.
Die Gruppe sieht sich nahe der mexikanischen Grenze einer Horde von Zombies gegenüber. Nachdem sich die Gruppe dazu entschlossen hat, bei La Reina zu bleiben, wird dies ausgiebig gefeiert.
Als klar wird, dass Dr. Kurians Donald Corren Gegenmittel nicht hilft, ist der Teufel los. Statt vor einer Infektion zu schützen, hat der Impfstoff schlimme Nebenwirkungen.
Murphy Keith Allan nutzt währenddessen seine psycho-manipulativen Fähigkeiten, um Roberta Warren Kellita Smith an einer wichtigen Stelle zu positionieren.
Der gelingt es, im letzten Moment Vasquez zu befreien. Endlich hat die Gruppe Kalifornien erreicht und das Ziel ist nicht mehr allzu weit entfernt.
Während sie es immerhin schon bis hierher geschafft haben, überkommt sie die Erinnerung an ihre Vergangenheit und wo sie waren, als die Seuche ausbrach.
Sie fahren nach Malibu und werden dort damit konfrontiert, dass sich das Labor nicht in einem Gebäude, sondern in einem U-Boot befindet.
Merch diesen an Bord und hält damit das Schicksal der menschlichen Art in seinen Händen. Teller Frank Boyd heranzukommen.
Murphy Keith Allan hingegen schafft es, mit seinem neu gebildeten Team zu fliehen.
